作者简介：詹姆士·克里弗德（James Clifford，1945～）哈佛大学历史学博士，美国加州大学圣塔克鲁兹分校（University of California, Santa Cruz）意识史系荣誉教授，于2011年当选美国艺术与科学院院士（American Academy of Arts and Sciences）。克里弗德为当代人类学论述和文化反思重要学者之一，曾担任American Ethnologist、Cultural Anthropology、Museum Anthropology、Cultural Studies、Material Culture、Collaborative Anthropology等重要人类学期刊的编辑委员，研究观点包含人类学发展史、民族志田野工作、原住民研究、原民艺术、博物馆收藏与历史。除了《文化的困境》、《路径》、《复返》三部曲，尚著有：Person and Myth: Maurice Leenhardt in the Melanesian World（1982）、On the Edges of Anthropology（2003），并与马库斯（George Marcus）合编Writing Culture: The Poetics and Politics of Ethnography（1986）。
